Terms of Use

You must be at least 18 years old and the parent or legal guardian of any child who uses Rooted through your account. You are responsible for your account, for keeping your password secure, and for how children use Rooted under your account.

Rooted offers short audio stories and learning activities in heritage languages, including Rooted Tales, Learning Adventures and Custom Tales. We may add, change or remove features over time. Rooted supports language learning at home; it does not guarantee any specific learning outcome.

During the beta (January 6, 2027 to February 14, 2027), Rooted is free and some features may be incomplete, change, or be unavailable. We may ask for your feedback through in-app surveys. When the beta ends, we will tell you about pricing in advance, and you can choose whether to continue. We will never charge you without your clear agreement.

Some Rooted stories and narration are created with the help of AI tools. Rooted Tales and Learning Adventures are reviewed by a native speaker before they are published. Custom Tales are generated from the details you provide and not reviewed before they are played. These stories must be reviewed by you, the user and parent, before confirming and saving to the library.

You keep ownership of what you add to Rooted, such as names, family details, story ideas and voice recordings (“Your Content”). You give us a limited license to use Your Content only to provide Rooted to your family, for example to generate and narrate your Custom Tales.

You agree not to add content that you don’t have the right to use, or that is unlawful, hateful, sexual, violent, or harmful to children.

You may only upload a recording of your own voice, or of another adult who has given written consent for their voice to be used in Rooted. You may not upload a child’s voice or anyone’s voice without their consent. Each person whose voice is used can ask us to delete their voice data at any time. See the Privacy Policy, section 5, for how we handle voice data.

You agree not to:

• Use Rooted for any unlawful purpose
• Copy, resell, or redistribute Rooted stories or audio outside your household
• Try to access other users’ accounts or data, or interfere with how Rooted works
• Reverse engineer or scrape the app, or use it to build a competing product
• Use the story generator to create content that impersonates real people without their consent

Rooted stories, characters (including Sprout and Wiggles), audio, design and brand are owned by Rooted or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable license to use them within the app for your family’s own, non-commercial use.

After the beta ends, families will lose access to premium features, as determined by Rooted. We will notify you of your loss of access and tell you the new subscription price, which will be set when the beta ends. You can then choose to subscribe or walk away. You will not be charged automatically after the beta, because we do not ask for payment information during it.

If you joined Rooted through a heritage-language school, the school does not control your account and does not see your family’s personal information.

You can delete your account at any time in settings. We may suspend or end an account that breaks these Terms or puts children or other users at risk. When an account ends, we delete your data as described in the Privacy Policy.

Rooted is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the extent allowed by law, we disclaim warranties of any kind, including that Rooted will be uninterrupted or error-free. Rooted is an educational tool and is not a substitute for professional instruction, therapy, or medical advice.

To the extent allowed by law, Rooted will not be liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or $50. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois.

If we make material changes, we will tell you by email or in the app at least 14 days before they take effect. Continuing to use Rooted after that means you accept the updated Terms.
